Guest Blogging at Live Music Blog

Tuesday, April 19th, 2005

Thanks to the kindness of Justin over at the Live Music Blog, I’ll be doing some guest blogging over there from time to time. I’ve actually had an account over there for a little while now — I just haven’t had time to do much blogging anywhere lately. But with the announcement of Derek’s interview tonight, I thought it would be a good time to introduce myself over at the Live Music Blog.

Obviously, the guest blogging I plan to do over there will primarily focus on Derek Trucks Band items.

Derek Trucks Interview Tonight: 8PM Central, Available Via Webcast

Tuesday, April 19th, 2005

Thanks to Daniel Gold for leaving a comment on a recent podcast post alerting me to an interview he’ll be conducting with Derek Trucks tonight. Daniel hosts a radio show called Honest Tunes based out of Fayetteville, Arkansas:

Tuesday April 19th at 8:00 PM Central Time. DEREK TRUCKS INTERVIEW @ www.dgold.info/radio/

This is Derek’s 2nd interview on Honest Tunes radio show. Our webcast is streaming live NOT archived. I hope you will be able to tune in Tuesday night.

Daniel’s been collecting questions from fans on the Hittin’ The Web website, so I expect he’ll be able to ask Derek some of the questions that are on the minds of Derek’s fans. The radio show is streamed live as a webcast, so tune in if you can!

The Honest Tunes radio show is affiliated with An Honest Tune magazine. I actually picked up the most recent copy of An Honest Tune at a book store a few weeks ago when the cover story about Hill Country Blues Rules caught my eye. The magazine is a very enjoyable read and I highly recommend it.

Daniel was also kind enough to link to Radio DTB from his web site, which I greatly appreciate.

Podcast #007 Delayed, More Podcast Promotion

Tuesday, April 12th, 2005

Usually, by this time of the week, you’ve got a fresh new episode of Radio DTB to listen to. Unfortunately, this week’s episode is delayed — largely due to the fact that I’ve been out seeing the Derek Trucks Band live. I’ve got the episode scripted, I just need to sit down and record it. Hopefully I do that tonight. Again, I apologize for the delay.

In happier news, I’m excited to announce that Radio DTB was mentioned in the most recent episode (#8) of the GoRadio Podcast, a podcast designed to go hand-in-hand with GoTriad magazine. I think it’s even cooler to have been mentioned in their podcast because GoTriad is the local weekly entertainment magazine for where I live. In addition to the mention of Radio DTB, you should definitely check out the most recent GoRadio Podcast for the discussion of Derek Trucks and how he and Susan balance the demands of a tour-heavy lifestyle with raising a couple of kids.

goTriad.com: Musical couple balances parenting with life on road

Thursday, April 7th, 2005

GoTriad.com has a great article about Derek Trucks’ parenting responsibilities:

Musical couple balances parenting with life on road

Derek Trucks will pull into the Carolina Theatre on Saturday afternoon for a soundcheck and will check out the venue known as Greensboro’s Grand Old Lady. It’ll be the first time he’s played in the 1927 vaudeville hall. He’ll spin through a tune or two and then do what he does almost every day when he’s on the road: make or return a phone call.

This is a great article, well worth the read. I’m not just saying that because it’s from my local paper and talks about the show that I’m looking forward to attending on Saturday. I’m saying it because it offers a glimpse into Derek’s responsibilities as a father and how he manages his road life with his home life.

Interview with Jesse Franklin, one of the guitarists from Tishamingo

Thursday, April 7th, 2005

jambands.com has an interview with Jesse Franklin, one of the guitarists from Tishamingo, that mentions Derek Trucks:

The Wear n’ Tear of Tishamingo

M.S. Who would you say your major influences are as guitar players?

J.F. I would say, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Duane Allman, that’s probably the biggest two, then Derek Trucks and Warren Haynes of course. My first to guys were Vaughan and Hendrix then Duane Allman.

Happy April 1

Thursday, April 7th, 2005

I’m late to the party on the April 1 “news” stories from jambands.com, but I wanted to point out a fun note that recently appeared on their website:

“Hitting the Bottle”: Charlie Trucks Tells All (2005)

A new tell-all book has the Derek Trucks Band reeling. The autobiography of Charlie Trucks chronicles numerous instances of on-stage napping and sessions with the bottle. A source within the DTB camp, now in spin control mode, commented, “Derek gave that kid his big break when he sat in with Les Paul but Charlie squandered the opportunity and just spent a lot of time drooling all over himself. He never tried to break out on his own, and his livelihood became totally dependent on Derek and Susan (Tedeschi). I don’t think he’s really cut out for the music business because it’s a tough life and you just can’t cry when things don’t go your way. Now I will admit that little crumbsnatcher has the rock star mentality down pat– constantly needing to be pacified, requiring that he be fed and have his butt wiped by others, insisting that he be personally carried to his destination, etc. And he would get more play than anyone I’ve ever seen!”

Charlie Trucks’ publicist, Jim Walsh, shrugged off any criticism. “Listen, the dude just turned three. He has stories to tell.” Diaper Dandy is co-authored by Dick Vitale.

Design Help Needed: Radio DTB Logo

Tuesday, April 5th, 2005

If there are any Radio DTB fans out there who have an eye for graphic design, I sure could use your help.

I’m trying to design some Radio DTB business cards that I can hand out at shows and the like. The design I’ve come up with so far is pretty boring — Radio DTB needs a logo! As far as graphic arts go, I’m not very talented. If you can help out by designing a logo that would be suitable for business card use, as well as use on the web site, I would really appreciate it. Leave a comment on this post or send me an email if you’re interested in helping.

Thanks in advance!

Derek Trucks brings vitality, virtuosity to packed venue

Saturday, April 2nd, 2005

From an article in the Savannah Morning News (registration required, bugmenot.com is your friend):

Derek Trucks brings vitality, virtuosity to packed venue

Derek Trucks spends months on the road each year, touring with his own band and the Allman Brothers Band. When he stops, people listen.

Friday night the Derek Trucks Band - known to its legion of fans simply as DTB - took the stage at Trustees Theater for a show that wowed the house.

Trucks, a true musical prodigy, is a commanding yet communal presence. His licks on numbers like “Set 1,” “Crow Jane” and “To Know You” are truly tasty. But he blends in with his bandmates - Kofi Burbridge on keyboards, Yonrico Scott on drums, Todd Smallie on bass and Mike Mattison - with an unpretentious manner that puts the focus purely on what he’s playing….
