The best way to experience the Derek Trucks Band is to listen to them live, so if they’re ever performing near you, I highly recommend going out to see them. Here are some of the recent additions to the Derek Trucks Band section of the Live Music Archive:

Radio DTB Promotion

Friday, March 25th, 2005

Over the past few days, I’ve been promoting Radio DTB with other podcast-related sites. I’m excited to report that Radio DTB is now listed in the Alternative & Rock category of ipodder.org (yeah, not a perfect genre match, but I really don’t know what genre to use for the Derek Trucks Band) and podcastdirectory.com.

As I find more podcast-related sites and directories, I’ll be submitting Radio DTB to them to be added. If you are enjoying Radio DTB, feel free to promote in forums, websites, and by letting your friends know about it.

If you like to get the entire site content in your RSS feed, continue to use http://feeds.feedburner.com/radiodtb in your favorite RSS aggregator.

As always, feedback about any aspect of the site or the podcast is appreciated.

DTB In The News

Tuesday, March 22nd, 2005

I’m catching up on several DTB news items from the past few days:

Radio DTB #004: Featuring Music From The March 2, 1996 Concert At The White Rabbit In Austin, TX

Tuesday, March 22nd, 2005

Radio DTB #004 (13.8 MB, 30 min) is now available.

This edition of Radio DTB is by request — Mark Johnson asked to hear some of the Derek Trucks Band’s early work and suggested that I listen to the March 2, 1996 concert from the White Rabbit in Austin, TX. I’m not as familiar with the early years of the DTB as I am with the recent material, so I jumped at the excuse to broaden my horizons. I was not disappointed — this concert was almost 2 hours of high-energy, rocking fun. I had a difficult time narrowing down the selection to the 30 minute format of Radio DTB, and in the end I decided that we’ll feature this concert over the course of two episodes. This week, Radio DTB features Travelin’ South, Cissy Strut, and The World Is A Ghetto. I was unable to find any information about the taper who taped and transferred this show, so if you have any information about who did that, please let me know so that I can give them the proper credit.

As always, we love feedback here at Radio DTB. If you’ve got a question or a request, please leave a comment on the website or send me an email. Additionally, you can phone in your comments and requests by leaving voice mail at 206-984-9487.

The best way to experience the Derek Trucks Band is to listen to them live, so if they’re ever performing near you, I highly recommend going out to see them. You can also enjoy the hundreds of live shows available for download from the Live Music Archive. In addition, you can purchase Live At Georgia Theatre, a very high quality live recording, multi-tracked and studio mixed, from a variety of digital music providers such as the official Derek Trucks Band website, iTunes, and Hittin’ The Note.

Radio DTB: Now Featuring Voice Mail

Friday, March 18th, 2005

Radio DTB now features voice mail. That’s right, if you’ve got a question, comment, or request that you’re dying to send to Radio DTB, and you’d rather use the telephone instead of using email or leaving a comment at the web site, I’ve got you covered. Just call 206-984-9487 and leave a message. I might include your message on an upcoming episode. The voice mail service is provided (for free) from K7 and I figured that I’d try it out and see how I liked it. So far, so good.

Thanks go out to Shahrum Amiri, who produces a daily podcast on his way to work, for the pointer to K7. Shahrum’s podcast and website isn’t related to the DTB or to live music, but it’s worth checking out — I enjoy listening to his podcasts.

Radio DTB #003: Featuring Music From The January 10, 2005 and January 11, 2005 Concerts

Thursday, March 17th, 2005

Radio DTB #003 (13.5 MB, 30 min) is now available. I apologize for the delay in getting this edition out.

The third edition of Radio DTB explores some of the newer music that the DTB has been playing in recent shows. The songs featured in this edition of Radio DTB are from the January 10, 2005 and January 11, 2005 shows at The Ram’s Head Tavern in Annapolis, MD. Both of these shows were taped by Dallas Cupps and transferred and mixed by Steven Gatto. They can be downloaded in their entirety from the Live Music Archive: January 10, 2005 and January 11, 2005. Songs included in this episode of Radio DTB include To Know You Is To Love You, Greensleeves, Chevrolet, and Crow Jane.

Special thanks to Kjelene Bertran for providing the voice for the intro and to Shahrum Amiri for providing the voice for the outro for this edition of Radio DTB.

In addition to the live music available for download from the Live Music Archive, you can also purchase Live At Georgia Theatre, a very high quality live recording, multi-tracked and studio mixed, from a variety of digital music providers such as the official Derek Trucks Band website, iTunes, and Hittin’ The Note.

DTB To Play Bele Chere Music Festival

Wednesday, March 16th, 2005

The Asheville Citizen-Times is reporting that the DTB will be participating in the 2005 Bele Chere festival. It looks like it’s going to be a great festival:

Grammy-winning mandolin picker Sam Bush, Leftover Salmon lead singer Drew Emmitt, blues guitarist Susan Tedeschi, the Derek Trucks Band and the Dirty Dozen Brass Band are among the performers to play the 2005 Bele Chere festival, July 29- 31 in downtown Asheville….

Bele Chere, which began in 1979 to pull visitors into downtown during a time when the central business district was in decline, has grown into what organizers say is the Southeast’s largest free outdoor music festival of its kind. While there is no way to exactly measure attendance, last year’s visitation was estimated to be 300-350,000.

The Bele Chere Festival boasts itself as the largest free outdoor street festival in the southeast. More information can be found at the official Bele Chere website. I’m hoping to be able to attend the festival this year — it looks like it will be lots of fun, with lots of great music.

Allman Brothers March Madness Reviews

Wednesday, March 16th, 2005

Several news sources have published reviews of the recent Allman Brothers Band shows at the Beacon Theatre in New York, NY. Derek Trucks plays guitar for the Allman Brothers Band.

Band Weblogs

Wednesday, March 16th, 2005

Jenny May, author of Band Weblogs, dropped me a note a few days ago telling me about her site:

Band Weblogs is a new directory that gives musicians/creative music writers an opportunity to share opinions, views, daily lives (and anything else they may write in their blogs) and most importantly, their music, with the world of blog readers! Music reviews are also welcome.

They are just starting out, so they are still in the process of recruiting music blogs. It’s a site to keep an eye on.

Radio DTB #003 Delayed

Monday, March 14th, 2005

Normally, I try to get the Radio DTB podcasts up before I go to bed Sunday night, so that they’re available for everyone to listen to on Monday morning. This week has been a tough one for me, and as a result, the production of the podcast has slipped. Hopefully, I’ll be able to finish it today and put it up before going to bed tonight, so it’ll be here when you wake up in the morning.

Sneak peak: We’ll be visiting the January 2005 shows at the Ram’s Head Tavern in Annapolis, MD and focusing on some of the newer tunes that the band has been playing lately.

BitTorrent: DTB @ The Derek Trucks Band in Annapolis, MD - 1/10/2005

Tuesday, March 8th, 2005

The 1/10/2005 DTB show is available for BitTorrent download from etree. I was at this show and have been eagerly anticipating its release in the trading community. Ron Halloway played sax most of the second set. This is one of my favorite shows I have attended and I highly recommend it. Look for this show to be featured on an upcoming episode of Radio DTB.

Radio DTB #002: Featuring Music From The November 20, 2004 and December 1, 2000 Concerts

Monday, March 7th, 2005

Radio DTB #002 (14.5 MB, 32 min) is now available.

The second edition of Radio DTB explores music from the Javier era of the bad, highlighting songs from the November 20, 2004 concert at the Avalon Ballroom in Boston, MA (taped by Steven Gatto) and the December 1, 2000 concert at the Magic Bag in Ferndale, MI (taped by David Hamilton). Both of these shows can be downloaded in their entirety from the Live Music Archive: November 20, 2004 and December 1, 2000.

Special thanks to Shahrum Amiri for providing the voice for the intro and to Kjelene Bertran for providing the voice for the outro for this edition of Radio DTB. I apologize in advance for the quality of my commentary. I was battling a pretty nasty cold when I recorded this show, so I was a bit off my game.

You can also purchase Live At Georgia Theatre, a very high quality live recording, multi-tracked and studio mixed, from a variety of digital music providers such as the official Derek Trucks Band website, iTunes, and Hittin’ The Note.

Live Music Blog

Thursday, March 3rd, 2005

Thanks to a post at Harmonica Ramblings, I have now discovered the Live Music Blog. It’s a great blog and I’m adding it to the “Live Music Resources” section of Radio DTB.
